Design|PINWU

Material|Bamboo Rattan, Aluminum

Size|76cm x 85cm x 87cm

"The 'Air' Bamboo Chair is a groundbreaking interpretation of traditional bamboo weaving craftsmanship. This design concept transcends the inherent limitations of bamboo's weight and strength. The bamboo strips are interwoven over a mold, bonded layer by layer with bamboo glue. Each strip's weaving direction is calculated based on ergonomic principles, and with the addition of a stainless steel base, the entire chair is both lightweight and durable."

Work|Piao

Design|PINWU

Materials|Bamboo Paper, Beech Wood, Black Walnut

Dimensions|67cm x 58cm x 83cm

Year|2011

The Piao also called Xuan Paper Chair, uses natural glue to layer Xuan paper onto an umbrella frame, drawing from traditional paper umbrella craftsmanship. The concept of Piao stems from the designer's bold idea of turning Xuan paper into a chair. By leveraging the delicate texture and toughness of Xuan paper, the chair offers both a warm tactile sensation and excellent support. The Xuan paper is crafted by a workshop in Jing County, Anhui, while the paper layering was completed by the designer and traditional umbrella artisans in Yuhang, Hangzhou. Remarkably, the previously fragile Xuan paper achieves a solidity comparable to hardwood under specific techniques.

The "CMF Trend LAB" exhibition has successfully held two editions so far. It conducts in-depth research across fields such as craft technology, cultural aesthetics, lifestyle, and user behavior, utilizing various forms like samples, physical objects, case studies, and research reports to uncover the logic behind emerging trends. This, in turn, facilitates innovative interpretations of the future directions and competitive advantages of design through CMF (Color, Material, and Finish).

After participating in the first "CMF Trend LAB" exhibition with the "Rong Craft Material Laboratory," PINWU returns as a forum guest for the special presentation of the "CMF Trend LAB" exhibition during the 2023 Home Expo.
